A “Word of Exhortation”

Based on the book of Hebrews (ESV)

“I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation,
for I have written to you briefly.”
(Hebrews 13:22, ESV)

Because of Jesus is and Jesus has done, . . .

• Jesus is the of God. (1:1-4)
• Jesus is our great .

¹⁴ Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of
God, let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. (4:14-15)

• Jesus offered “once for all” as a sacrifice for our sins, securing our “eternal redemption.” (9:12)

We are exhorted . . .

1.Pay attention; don’t .

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. (2:1)

2. Don’t let your become .

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (3:13)

3. Strive for spiritual .

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, ² and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. ³ And this we will do if God permits. (6:1-3)

¹⁹ Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, ²¹ and since we have a great priest over the house of God, ²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. ²³ Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. ²⁴ And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, ²⁵not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (10:19-25)
