Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem

122 A Song of Ascents. Of David.

¹  I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
²  Our feet have been standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem!
³  Jerusalem—built as a city
that is bound firmly together,
⁴  to which the tribes go up,
the tribes of the Lord,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
⁵  There thrones for judgment were set,
the thrones of the house of David.
⁶  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they be secure who love you!
⁷  Peace be within your walls
and security within your towers!”
⁸  For my brothers and companions’ sake
I will say, “Peace be within you!”
⁹  For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good. (Psalm 122:1-9, ESV)

“Praying for the peace of Jerusalem” today means . . .

1. Asking God’s  for those who are grieving after the evil attacks on Israel last Saturday.

2. Asking God’s for Jewish people in Israel and around the world.

3. Asking God’s on Israel’s effort to defend her people and to defeat those who are intent on her destruction.

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. ² And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. ³ I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:1-3, ESV).

4. Asking God to draw more and more Jewish people to trust and follow — the Messiah and the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

5. Asking God to protect and to provide, to grant safety and security, to bestow peace and prosperity, to give harmony and unity to the — to all (Jews and Gentiles) who confess Jesus as Savior and follow him as Lord.

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. . . . There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:7, 28-29, ESV)
