As we consider for whom we will vote, we should evaluate carefully and prayerfully: (1) The – “Does this candidate have a track record of integrity and skill, character and competence?” And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them. (Psalm 78:72, NIV84) (2) Their – “With whom does this candidate associate? Who are his supporters, allies, and closest confidants?” “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” (Proverbs 13:20, ESV) (3) Their – “With which political party does this candidate identify, and what are the stated platform positions of that party?” The Democrat Party Platform is here. The Republican Party Platform is here. (4) Their – “What actions has this candidate taken or promised to take on a variety of public policy issues: taxes, regulatory issues, trade, immigration, healthcare, national security, foreign policy, jobs, law and order, sanctity of life, religious liberty, marriage, etc.?” “You will recognize them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:16a, ESV) (5) Their – “What is the judicial philosophy guiding the nominations this candidate has made or will make to be judges and justices of the Supreme Court?” The Foundational Value of Human Life person is created in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27, ESV; cf. Matthew 19:4) Human life begins at . 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. (Psalm 139:13-16, ESV) 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5, ESV) 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. . . . And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. (Luke 1:44, 2:16, ESV) Early Christian Literature “Didache 2.2 (c. A.D. 85-110) commands, ‘thou shalt not murder a child by abortion nor kill them when born’” (cited by the ESV Study Bible, p. 2539). “Letter of Barnabas 19.5 (c. A.D. 130), said: ‘You shall not abort a child, nor, again, commit infanticide’” (cited by the ESV Study Bible, p. 2539). We should support life-affirming ministries like Caring Solutions (for those facing unplanned pregnancies), Covenant Care (a Christian adoption agency), and Focus on the Family. We should to protect and defend innocent, human life – from the moment of conception to natural death. Democrat Party Platform “We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion. We will repeal the Title X domestic gag rule and restore federal funding for Planned Parenthood, . . .. Democrats oppose and will fight to overturn federal and state laws that create barriers to reproductive health and rights. We will repeal the Hyde Amendment, and protect and codify the right to reproductive freedom.” Republican Party Platform “. . . we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life that cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth. We oppose the use of public funds to perform or promote abortion, or to fund organizations, like Planned Parenthood, so long as they provide or refer for elective abortions or sell fetal body parts rather than provide healthcare.” Lives lost in the United States each year . . .
