What are the goals of this series?

1. To allow the to form and re-form our understanding and practices relate to ministry.

2. That every Ingleside member will discover their unique, God-given (S.H.A.P.E.) for ministry.

3. That every Ingleside member will actually begin or resume in the ministry of our church that best expresses what God has made them to be and do.

Our goal is
every member a minister!

On the gospel ship called Ingleside,
there are no passengers, . . . we are all crew!

What is “ministry”?

⁴⁵For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45, KJV)

New Testament Greek: 

• verb – “diakoneo” = “to minister” or “to serve”
• noun – “diakonos” = “minister” or “servant”
• noun – “diakonia” = “ministry” or “service”

Why Should I Be Interested in Ministry?

If I am a Christian, a believer, a Christ-follower . . .

1. God has me for ministry.

¹⁰For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)

2. God has me for ministry.

¹⁰As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: (1 Peter 4:10, ESV)

3. God has me for ministry.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, (Matthew 28:18-19a, ESV)

¹⁷ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. ¹⁸ All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; ¹⁹ that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:17-20, ESV)

4. God intends for me to be and in ministry.

¹¹ And he [God] gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, ¹² to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (Ephesians 4:11-12, ESV)

¹¹ It was he [God] who gave some to be . . . pastors and teachers, ¹² to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (NIV84)

Role of the pastors:  to the believers.

Role of the people:   to do the work of .

For what purpose: up the body of Christ.

In the body of Christ,
not everyone is a pastor, but everyone should be a minister!

5. The body of Christ my ministry.

¹⁸ But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. ¹⁹ If all were a single member, where would the body be? ²⁰ As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. ²¹ The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” (1 Corinthians 12:18-21, ESV)

6. I am for my ministry.

¹² So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12, ESV)

7. I will be for my ministry.

⁵ What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.  ⁶ I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.  ⁷ So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.  8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. (1 Corinthians 3:5-9, NIV84)

²³ Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV)
