2. As we consider for whom we will vote, we should evaluate carefully and prayerfully:

• The Person – character & competence
• Their Partners – VP, Cabinet, Staff, Closest Associates, etc.
• Their Party – Democrat, Republican
• Their Policies – jobs, taxes, trade, immigration, healthcare, etc.
• Their Picks – nominees for the Supreme Court & federal judges

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:5, ESV)

3. As followers of Christ, our vote should be shaped by four foundational biblical values

      (1)The value of .

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27, ESV)

We should vote to protect and defend innocent, human life – from the moment of conception to natural death.

(2) The value of .

⁴ He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, ⁵ and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? ⁶ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6, ESV)

We should vote to honor marriage as the union of one man and one woman in covenant commitment.

But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29, ESV)

We should vote to protect and defend religious liberty.

Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, ¹⁴ or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. (1 Peter 2:13-14, ESV)

We should vote to ensure equal justice under law and to support law and order.

Biblical Wisdom for Election Day . . . and Beyond

1. We should that we live in a country where we have a voice and a vote in electing our leaders.

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV) 

2. We should treat those who are elected with and .

⁵ Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. ⁶ For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. ⁷ Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. (Romans 13:5-7, ESV)

¹⁷ Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. (1 Peter 2:17, ESV)

3. We should for those who are elected.

 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, ² for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. (1 Timothy 2:1-2, ESV)

• Pray for their physical health and spiritual condition.
• Pray that they would acknowledge God’s sovereignty and seek God’s guidance.
• Pray that they would lead with wisdom and integrity.
• Pray that they would ensure a peaceful and just social order.
• Pray that they would treat followers of Jesus equitably.

4. We should remember that while matters related to politics and civil government do matter and are important, they are not .

¹⁷ Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” ¹⁸ But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” ²¹ They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:15-21, ESV) 

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, (Philippians 3:20, ESV) 

5. We should re-affirm that God is and renew our commitment to Jesus, to the gospel, to biblical values and standards, and to the mission of making disciples for the glory of God.
